Thoughts on Decommitting Recruits

A lot has been made of some Nebraska recruits decommitting amid the turmoil with the coaching situation. I think my position on this is pretty much the same as most Nebraska fans... it's ok with us. I'm not sure how this will all play out in the end, but Nebraska needs players that want nothing more than playing in the Scarlet and Cream, regardless of the offensive system or coach.

So far there have been four players who have decommitted:

  1. Jonas Gray (Notre Dame): Hey, Jonas - ND is 1-9. Weis is horrible. South Bend blows.
  2. Blaine Gabbert (Missouri): Missouri currently has 5 players in the NFL. Nebraska has 22.
  3. D.J. Woods (uncommitted): Frantz Hardy part II. Sweet.
  4. Darius Parish (uncommitted): You realize that Nebraska is 112th in Total Defense. You should be thrilled that Cosgrove will be gone.
There are also a considerable number that have started looking around, such as Shaun Mohler, Will Compton, Josh Williams, Bryce Givens, Dan Hoch... ok everyone is looking.

One player that I am really excited to see play is John Levorson out of Crete, NE. In my mind, he pretty much embodies the kind of player Nebraska should be targeting to develop the core of the team. He plays hard on both sides of the ball, led his team to a State Championship, and seems to be a tough-nosed player. He also isn't wavering on his commitment at all. See also: Baker Steinkuhler.
